170-year-old chapel brought into the 21st century

27 January 2022

Mariners is a 170-year-old chapel located in the middle of the re-developed Gloucester Docks. Like many churches during the Covid pandemic services moved on-line.

“We are very grateful for the Trust130 donation, and plan to use it to contribute to the cost of installing broadband. We currently stream from our church hall, as there is no phone line or broadband connection to our chapel.”

“The chapel has been a focal point in the Gloucester Docks for nearly two centuries, and we have only been able to open it for personal private prayer during the pandemic. Installing broadband to the church will allow us to re-open the church on a Sunday to live stream our services It will also increase the potential uses and flexibility of the chapel going forward, which will benefit both the church members and the wider community” Steve Smith, Trustee and Leadership Team, Mariners Gloucester.

Under the scheme, in line with Ecclesiastical’ s charitable ownership and Christian values, every time a new customer takes out a new home insurance policy we offer to donate £130 to the church or cathedral of that customer’s choice.

Since 2017, when we celebrated our 130th year, we have donated over £500,000 to more than 2500 churches and cathedrals chosen by our customers. There is no limit on the number of donations that can be made.

If your home insurance is due for renewal and you are interested in how Trust130 can benefit your church, please contact Ecclesiastical Insurance on 0800 7830 130.
