Boshers cleaning up with beach charity

When the team at Devon-based holiday letting insurance specialists Boshers was considering which charity to support with its Closer To You grant of £3,750, it was an easy decision.
Husband-and-wife managing directors Mark and Nicky Lavington are keen divers and sailors, and spend much of their leisure time on the beach.
And given the brokership’s focus on the leisure and tourism industry, The 2 Minute Foundation was an ideal fit.
The foundation became a charity in 2019 but began life in Bude, Cornwall, in 2013, to encourage people to help clean plastic and other litter off the planet’s beaches, two minutes at a time.
Since then, its volunteers have removed hundreds of tonnes of plastic from beaches all over the world.
2 Minute founder Martin Dorey said, ‘The environmental crisis in our oceans is huge, and we just wanted to give people a way to fight back. We use social media and hashtags like #2minutebeachclean to bring volunteers on board, and it just keeps getting bigger and better.
‘We have some 800 clean up stations around the UK and Ireland, and these are looked after by volunteer “guardian angels”. It costs approximately £1,875 per person to train and equip a guardian angel with reusable beach-clean bags and litter-pickers, and this money will help us fund two people to look after our clean-up stations on the Dorset coast.
‘We’ve had a relationship with Boshers for a while now, and we’re very grateful to them and Ecclesiastical Insurance for this latest fantastic donation.’
Boshers’ MD Mark Lavington said, ‘The sea is really close to our hearts, and there’s obviously a link in that we insure a lot of holiday lets – and people love clean water nearly as much as marine wildlife does. So we’ve been supporting Martin and 2 Minute for some years, and to date, with Ecclesiastical’s help, we have sponsored fifteen beach clean stations.’
