About the charity
Bookmark was started in 2018 with a simple vision: they want every child to read. They aim to help children develop the reading skills they need to succeed in school and beyond, by creating flexible volunteering at the heart of communities through an innovative app.
For children who need extra support with their reading, Bookmark provides programmes in Primary schools involving two face-to-face 30-minute sessions each week for six weeks. Schools have the flexibility to decide which children will take part in the programme and for how long.
The charity’s digital platform matches schools with fully safeguarded, vetted and trained reading volunteers in the local community, at the tap of a button. Bookmark volunteers arrange reading sessions via a mobile app and chat to other volunteers online – making it an easy way to fit volunteering around other commitments.
Together we’re helping
Each year, eight children in an average class will leave primary school unable to read well, often struggling in school and beyond. Bookmark aims to combat this. When a child can navigate words, they can navigate the world. For the children who need them, Bookmark are changing their story.
Ecclesiastical’s £1,000 donation will enable Bookmark to provide ten Primary schools with reading resources, equipping thousands of children with the tools they need to develop their literacy skills and confidence.
