Finance Business Partner (200904)

Role purpose:

To improve the support provided within the Group’s business units by delivering a business partnering service by providing information and decision support to enable the business to achieve agreed strategic and tactical objectives.


This is a key role in the finance team supporting a number of the business units within the Group, providing analysis of regular management information as well as planning and forecasting, and wider project work to support the Group’s strategic direction.

Key accountabilities:

  • Deliver analysis of results, plans and forecast within specific Group business units to support the leadership team and Group Finance requirements
  • Lead the annual budgeting, strategic planning and periodic forecasting processes ensuring robust documentation of assumptions, stress tests, drivers and outputs
  • Influence the business units in delivering its strategic objectives by:
  • Delivery of complex financial modelling relating to KPIs and value drivers
  • Providing insightful financial information and commentary
  • Delivery of a robust and reliable view of outturn for the year
  • Identifying risks, opportunities and trends and escalate via appropriate channel
  • Highlighting appropriate actions
  • Providing Business Area and Niche level analysis of profitability and Return on Capital
  • Challenge business decisions and performance by providing insightful information, including explanations of financial performance in the context of the strategy and plans
  • Support the delivery of complex business cases, modelling and supporting benefit tracking through the design of appropriate measures and governance.
  • Support and represent (when required) the Business Accounting Manager by providing analysis, insights and reports as requested
  • Ensure agreed standards of financial control and the risk management framework are embedded in all business processes
  • Actively expand personal technical both informally (networking internally and externally, internet, industry press) and formally (In-house training, CPD)

Key performance indicators:

  • Successful delivery of planning and forecasting process with accompanying assumptions
  • In depth understanding of the business units performance and key initiatives being undertaken and their perceived impact
  • Support the business units Management Teams
  • Accuracy, usefulness and timeliness of the analyses produced
  • Feedback from business areas and key stakeholders on the contribution of the Finance Business Partner

Knowledge skills and experience:

  • Qualified Accountant
  • In depth insurance accounting knowledge
  • Excellent analytical and diagnostic skills (will be tested)
  • Strong commercial understanding
  • Experience of effective stakeholder management within a commercial environment
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships whilst maintaining objectivity, challenge and influence
  • Skilled modeller, whilst having the ability to distil into pragmatic recommendations
  • Able to operate on a wide variety of fronts from monthly reporting cycles to complex long term projects
  • Excellent Communicator with ability to negotiate at all levels
