About the role:

To review, analyse and document the data and reporting requirements for the replacement of the core General Insurance system.

This role is critical in enabling the business to achieve its ambition of being more data driven through improving the quality, resilience and coverage of the data asset and enabling the delivery of more insightful and incisive analysis.


Key accountabilities:

  • Work with stakeholders to gather data requirements for the definition, collection, extraction, transformation and presentation of data in line with the data strategy
  • Critical appraisal of data options which balance time, cost and quality leading to recommendations for the optimal solution
  • Ensure and evidence that data privacy, integrity, security and operational resilience are a core part of the assessment of data options
  • Presentation of recommendations to stakeholders within different operational areas and different levels of seniority
  • Work closely with other core teams throughout the software development lifecycle to ensure best practice in approach
  • Preparation of appropriate documentation to progress data deliverables through the agreed project gates
  • Assist with programme communications and business-wide data understanding through developing collateral documents such as a programme data glossary
  • Assist with the design and development of data artefacts to meet key governance, integration and migration deliverables within our data strategy
  • Enable the handover to operational through appropriate L&D sessions and training documentation
  • Assist with cross-skilling BAU teams to ensure continuous improvement in Data and Analytics and a step change in capabilities

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Experience of working in a fast-paced transformation environment and with high levels of ambiguity
  • Great team player with experience of working transversally
  • Good understanding of best practice in data management, quality and governance
  • Enquiring mind and problem solver with good business acumen
  • Good working knowledge of data protection legislation and its practical application
  • Proven experience in gathering, analysing, mapping and documenting complex data requirements in a structured way
  • Able to balance the documentation requirements of technical developers and testers with an approach which ensures business comprehension
  • Good stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills with contacts with people from a variety of backgrounds
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and experience of delivering presentations and running workshops
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn new techniques which help in analysing data requirements and achieving a step change in business data capabilities


  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline
  • Experience of the insurance industry or similar
  • Knowledge and understanding of data warehousing principles and BI solutions (Cognos, Business Objects, Power BI, Tableau, QlikView or similar)
  • Good understanding of the value of data, what it means to be a data-driven organisation and how it is evidenced
