Book of My Life competition

The competition is now closed. The winner has been contacted and notified and will be announced on this page in the next few weeks. Thank you to everyone who took part and shared your stories with us
Do you know someone with an unsung achievement or a never-to-be-repeated experience? Someone in the background of a significant historical occasion or a person able to give a special insight into a period that might be lost to future generations?
The Book of My Life competition aims to take the first step in preserving at least one account of living heritage for our children and grandchildren. We are inviting anyone who knows someone with a life experience that deserves to be made into a book to come forward with nominations.
We have probably all heard someone tell a story from their past and responded with the comment “You should write a book about that”. For one reason or another though such books very rarely ever get written. Perhaps the teller does not have the necessary skill – or time – to write the story down. Perhaps they don’t realise just how important it is to preserve their story so that future generations can see the part that ordinary lives play in building the fuller picture of our complex social history. And so, those stories can very easily be lost within a very short time.
What's the prize?
At the end of the competition we will choose one winner whose story will be researched and written into a book by a professional author. The book will then be published by Ecclesiastical and copies will be presented to the winner’s family and friends.
Preserving our heritage
As an insurer of historic buildings and properties, we well understand the importance of preserving heritage. We work closely with many organisations on a daily basis to ensure that future generations can understand and enjoy the buildings that have created the backdrop to our history. However, we also know that bricks and mortar can only tell part of the story. The rest is made up of people’s lives and experiences. And the only way we can preserve that part of our history is by making sure that it is recorded today.
