Overseas branches and subsidiary companies
Over the years Ecclesiastical has developed and extended its reputation for professionalism, expertise and customer care. Today Ecclesiastical operates outside the United Kingdom through branches in Canada and Ireland and through subsidiary companies under the Ansvar brand in Australia and New Zealand. In addition, a specialist subsidiary, Ecclesiastical Underwriting Management Limited, writes worldwide property risks in the London Market.
Canada
In Canada a branch was opened in 1972 and Ecclesiastical is now the country’s leading insurer of places of worship for all faiths. The company also offers specialist insurance, valuation and risk management services for care homes, retirement living communities, schools and community organisations. It’s licensed in all provinces with offices in Toronto, Halifax, Calgary and Vancouver.
Ireland
In 1980 a branch was opened in Dublin to cater for the insurance needs of the Church of Ireland - including their involvement in the national education system. The company also underwrites household and commercial risks introduced through brokers. New community-based products are planned for the future based on the company’s established expertise in the UK.
The southern hemisphere
A key element in the group’s diversification was the acquisition in 1998 of the Ansvar subsidiaries in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. In the Southern hemisphere we trade as Ansvar Limited with headquarters in Melbourne. Ansvar is Australia's leading insurer of places of worship and community groups including care homes, retirement villages and not for profit organisations. It has offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Sydney. The New Zealand company is based in Auckland. A proportion of profits is allocated each year to dedicated community education programs with a special emphasis in assisting young Australians to develop a positive attitude to life.
Ansvar UK
Ansvar Insurance Limited has developed a distinctive presence in the UK market from its Eastbourne base. It deals primarily with specialist brokers who focus on the insurance needs of the not for profit sector including churches, charities and voluntary organisations. The company also meets the personal insurance needs of individuals associated with the not for profit sector. It allocates part of its profits to charities that encourage positive lifestyles and is a key supporter of the UK Charity Awards.
