David James
Senior Claims Handler
David joined Ecclesiastical in 2006 after graduating from the University of Sheffield with an upper class honours degree in Law. David took a year out travelling which included four months working in New Zealand.
I joined Ecclesiastical in 2006 after completing my degree in law. I became interested in insurance while studying insurance law as and I was impressed by the opportunities offered by Ecclesiastical and the support given towards study for the Advanced Diploma in Insurance.
I work in the claims department and my role involves working on existing files, processing payments, answering queries and registering the new claims that we receive on a daily basis. Good communication and time management skills are important together with a strong team ethic that helps us cope with heavy workloads.
I’ve worked within a range of claims teams and really enjoy dealing with our customers. When one of our customers makes a claim, it’s our chance to show what makes us different. Assisting a customer at a difficult time, such as during floods, is very rewarding.
As part of my graduate training, I’m also involved in additional projects that give me valuable insight into other parts of the business. One such project looked at the possible impact of an extreme weather event and what our response could be. Another was to collate and distribute the bi-monthly report that highlights the praise received by the claims department so that we can share the stories with the rest of the company.
Shortly, I will be moving to a more technical role and look forward to the challenge this will pose. It will be exciting to be part of Ecclesiastical as it delivers increasingly high standards of efficiency, service and technical competence in today’s competitive business environment.
